Tax calendar 2010

Watch for these important dates.

Fund your IRA as soon as possible. Returns will have more time to compound.

Jan. - Feb.

Get organized for the tax season by assembling all the necessary information.

Jan. - Feb.

Make sure you have received your tax statements (W2, 5498 or 1099-R, for example). Check mailing dates for Ameriprise tax forms.

Jan. - April

Final estimated quarterly tax payment due for 2009 for those who are self-employed, retired or others who may have insufficient withholding or prior tax payments.

Jan. 15

Submit any remaining claims to your Flexible Spending Accounts (FSAs) for the previous year if this is allowed by your employer.

March 31

Take required minimum distributions (RMDs) if you turned 70½ in the previous year.

April 1

File federal and state taxes or file Form 4868 to get an extension on filing your federal tax return. Any tax liability is due.

April 15

Final day to fund traditional and Roth IRA contributions for the previous year.

April 15

Estimated quarterly tax payment due for 2010 for those who are self-employed, retired or others who may have insufficient withholding or prior tax payments.

April 15
